Dr. Michael Hurwitz is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology) at Yale School of Medicine. He specializes in treating genitourinary cancers, particularly kidney, bladder, prostate, and testicular cancers, with a focus on immune cell-based therapies such as CAR-T and tumor infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapies. His research expands access to cell-based therapy trials for solid tumor patients and collaborates on developing new treatments at Yale Cancer Center. He co-directs the Cell Therapy Clinical Research Program and oversees immune cell therapy trials at Smilow Cancer Hospital.
Education: MD (Cornell University Medical College, 1998), PhD (Rockefeller University, 1997), residency in Internal Medicine (Weill Cornell), and fellowship in Medical Oncology (Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s/MGH).
Research interests include immune-based therapies, renal cell carcinoma biology, and tertiary lymphoid structures' role in treatment response. His work bridges clinical care and translational research, with over 50 publications in journals like Cancer Discovery and Journal of Clinical Oncology.
