Michael G. Cronin is an Assistant Professor of English at Maynooth University, specializing in twentieth-century and contemporary Irish literature, the history of the novel, and sexuality studies. He has been a permanent faculty member since 2015 and serves as MAP Academic Advisor for the English Department. Cronin holds an MA from the University of Sussex and a PhD from Maynooth University, where he researched the Irish Catholic bildungsroman. His work critically examines intersections between aesthetics, politics, and sexual liberation in Irish literature.
Key publications include *Impure Thoughts* (2012), *Revolutionary Bodies* (2022), and *Sexual/Liberation* (2022), the latter winning the 2023 Robert Rhodes Prize. His research explores queer theory, Marxist literary criticism, and postcolonial perspectives. Cronin has lectured internationally at institutions like Columbia University and Wuppertal University and is active in academic organizations such as the Maynooth University Sexualities and Genders Research Network (MUSexGen).
His teaching philosophy emphasizes collaborative student encounters with literary texts as spaces for reimagining cultural values. Cronin has supervised doctoral research on gendered neoliberalism and is co-supervising studies on modernity in Irish fiction and queer feminist fairy tales.
