Michael Filippi

Michael Filippi is a Researcher at the Energy Storage & Distributed Resources Division within the Energy Technologies Area at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

He holds a Bachelor degree (2018) and Ph.D. in Chemistry from TU Berlin (2024), completed under Prof. Peter Strasser's supervision. His doctoral research specifically addressed critical efficiency and scaleup challenges for CO2 electrolyzers.

Dr. Filippi's work centers on advancing CO2 electrolysis systems through electrochemical innovation, with strong emphasis on catalytic processes and scalable reactor design. His research directly contributes to sustainable energy storage solutions and carbon-neutral fuel production within the division's focus areas of ionomers, ceramics characterization, and electrolyzer technology development.

Within the laboratory structure, he actively participates in cross-cutting projects spanning fuel cell diagnostics, materials modeling, and distributed energy resource integration, leveraging the division's specialized facilities for energy conversion research.
