Michael E. Widlansky, MD, MPH, is the Northwestern Mutual Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), holding a dual appointment in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. He serves as Director of the Cardiovascular Research Center and Principal Investigator of his laboratory. His research focuses on endothelial dysfunction mechanisms in diabetes, hypertension, and aging, employing techniques like arterial tonometry and vascular imaging. He leads collaborative efforts across disciplines including Orthopedics, Dermatology, and Pediatrics.
Dr. Widlansky's leadership roles include Associate Fellowship Director in Cardiovascular Diseases and Chair of the Human Research Affairs Committee. His educational background includes an MD from the University of Michigan (1999) and an MPH. His lab investigates mitochondrial homeostasis in Type II Diabetes and evaluates interventions like metformin versus glipizide. Recently, they explored probiotic effects on cardiovascular risk through NHANES analysis and the role of microRNA-29 in vascular regulation.
Publications highlight his work on cerebrovascular reactivity in hemodialysis patients, genetic influences on blood pressure via chromatin mapping, and post-COVID endothelial dysfunction. Collaborations with the Human Vascular Translational Research Core aim to bridge clinical and basic science insights.
