Dr. Michael E. Dobbs is a Professor in the School of Business at Eastern Illinois University, specializing in Strategic Management with a focus on sports, small businesses, and nonprofits. He holds a PhD in Organizations, Strategy, and International Management from the University of Texas at Dallas (1999), an MBA from Baylor University (1991), and a BA in Communications from the University of North Texas (1988).
His research explores strategic dynamics in sports leagues, nonprofit organizations, and small enterprises, with publications in journals like Competitiveness Review and International Journal of Sport Management. He has advised over a dozen local businesses and nonprofits, including Maddison Avenue Candle and Veolia, and has been recognized for teaching excellence with multiple EIU School of Business awards (2011, 2015, 2017). His work also includes analyzing executive compensation in universities and franchisor mortality rates.
Dr. Dobbs has been quoted nationally on professional sports league formation and served as a reviewer for academic journals and conferences. His teaching includes courses on strategic management, entrepreneurship, and organizational behavior. Notable awards include the Holley Ethics Curriculum Award (2014) and Dudley Student Research Mentoring (2013).
