Michael Dumanis is a Professor of Literature and Director of Poetry at Bennington College. He joined the faculty in 2012 and also serves as Editor of the Bennington Review and a faculty member in the Writing Seminars. His work explores themes of diaspora, childhood memories, and cultural dislocation through poetry and literary curation.
Education:

Research Interests: Dumanis’s poetry interrogates the intersections of personal history and broader socio-political contexts, particularly through the lens of Soviet emigration and diaspora experiences. His edited volumes and critical works highlight emerging literary voices and the evolution of contemporary American poetry.
Publications and Awards: His poetry collections My Soviet Union (Juniper Prize winner) and Creature reflect his thematic focus. He has received residencies at prestigious institutions like Yaddo and the Hermitage Artist Retreat, alongside grants and awards for his contributions to literary arts.
Advising and Grants: Previously directed the Cleveland State University Poetry Center, a literary press. His editorial roles include co-editing Legitimate Dangers and Russell Atkins. Active in fostering literary communities through institutional and curatorial efforts.
