Mark Wunderlich is Executive Director of the Bennington Writing Seminars and a faculty member at Bennington College, where he has taught since 2004. He assumed the directorship of the Bennington Writing Seminars in August 2017, leading one of the most respected low-residency MFA programs in the country.
Wunderlich's research and creative interests focus on contemporary poetry, literary translation, and creative writing pedagogy. His work explores themes of spirituality, mortality, identity, and the natural world through meticulously crafted formal verse. As both a practitioner and educator, he has significantly contributed to the contemporary poetry landscape through his writing, teaching, and arts administration.
His publications demonstrate a consistent engagement with existential questions through the lens of contemporary American poetry, with particular attention to formal structures and lyrical expression. Over his career, his work has evolved from more personal narratives to increasingly philosophical explorations of nothingness, spirituality, and human connection.
