Patricia Smith is a Distinguished Professor for the City University of New York and Visiting Professor at Princeton University. An acclaimed poet and author of eight poetry collections, her work Incendiary Art won multiple awards including the Kingsley Tufts Award and LA Times Book Prize, while being a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Shoulda Been Jimi Savannah received the Lenore Marshall Prize.
Her research and creative interests center on African American experiences and poetic forms. She holds fellowships from Guggenheim, Civitella Ranieri, Yaddo, and MacDowell. Smith holds the distinction of being a four-time individual champion at the National Poetry Slam, making her the most successful poet in the competition's history.
