Michael Creer, MD is the Laurence M. Demers Professor of Pathology and Chief of the Division of Clinical Pathology at Penn State College of Medicine. He holds academic appointments including Director of the Clinical Laboratory and Medical Co-Director of Special Hematology and Hemostasis and Thrombosis Laboratories. His research focuses on protease-activated receptors (PAR), phospholipase A2 signaling, and coagulation mechanisms. He has authored over 85 peer-reviewed publications.
Education: MD from University of Utah School of Medicine (1980), residency in Clinical Pathology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital (1983). Professional roles include leadership in hematology, transfusion medicine, and clinical laboratory operations.
Research interests span stem cell biology, coagulation proteases, and platelet function. He collaborates internationally on standardized diagnostic protocols for conditions like cervical cancer and vitamin D assays. His work addresses clinical challenges in thrombosis, hemostasis, and hematopoietic cell therapy.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Penn State Cancer Institute's Mechanisms of Carcinogenesis research group. Active in developing automated hematology analysis systems for stem cell engraftment assessment post-transplant.
