Michael Chihyung Ok is an Associate Professor at the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University, where he also serves as the Director of PhD Programs. He joined the faculty in 2013 after teaching at Kansas State University.
He holds a Ph.D. in Hospitality Services Management from Kansas State University, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Florida International University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and a Bachelor’s degree from Sejong University in Korea.
His research centers on service design, customer relationship management, emotional labor, employee intelligence, food and travel experiences, and senior citizens’ behaviors in hospitality consumption. Teaching interests include hospitality services, lodging management, research methods, and strategic decision-making systems.
His scholarly work includes 30 peer-reviewed publications and participation in 67 conference presentations, with research supported by 12 funded projects. His publications focus on emotional labor, service recovery, and employee-customer interactions in hospitality settings, reflecting strong interdisciplinary engagement across organizational behavior and service marketing.
