Michael Campbell is a Professor in the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of Manitoba, part of the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources. He holds a Ph.D. in Geography and Planning from the University of Waterloo (1996), an M.A. in Geography from the University of Manitoba (1986), and a B.A. in Geography from the University of Manitoba (1980).
Research Focus: Dr. Campbell investigates relationships between nature-based tourism, outdoor recreation, and environmental conservation. Key areas include:
- Mitigating tourism impacts in natural ecosystems
- Human-wildlife conflict resolution (e.g., Manitoba's 'Bear Smart' initiative)
- Community-based tourism as a conservation tool in Uganda/Tanzania
- Park management strategies and visitor experience optimization
