Chris A.B. Zajchowski is an Assistant Professor in Parks, Tourism, and Recreation Ecology at the University of Idaho’s College of Natural Resources, Department of Natural Resources and Society. His research focuses on human dimensions of outdoor recreation, air quality management, and conservation psychology. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Utah (2018), M.S. from Minnesota State University (2011), and B.A. from Colby College (2007).
Research interests span visitor use management strategies, decision-making in natural areas, and experiential learning frameworks. His work bridges environmental psychology with practical management solutions, particularly in protected areas facing air quality challenges or wildlife conservation conflicts.
Recent publications address topics like falcon nesting closures in national parks, pandemic-era beachgoer behavior, and black bear viewing safety. His collaborative research projects are funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior and focus on visitor management at national parks and heritage sites.
