Christopher J. Wynveen is a Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation at Baylor University. Holding a PhD from Texas A&M University and a master's degree from Clemson University, his professional background includes residential summer camp directorship and service as a Wisconsin deputy sheriff, which he integrates into his academic approach. Dr. Wynveen's research centers on the human dimensions of natural resource management, with primary focus on place meaning and attachment in parks and protected areas. His work examines how recreational visitors' ascribed meanings inform stakeholder engagement, hunter recruitment/retention strategies, recreation behavior management, and grassroots conservation project evaluation. This includes studies on park regulation enforcement, game species management through hunter behavior, and community involvement in publicly owned recreation resources.
His teaching portfolio encompasses RLS 2301 (Camp Counseling & Administration), RLS 3396 (Recreation Field Lab), RLS 4391 (Leisure Services Management), RLS 4392 (Professional Issues in Leisure Services), RLS 4331 (Meaning, Culture and Philosophy of American Landscape), and the Baylor in Australia program (RLS 4V13/ENV 4613) which he directs as Program Director. Dr. Wynveen's interdisciplinary approach bridges his field experience with theoretical frameworks in recreation management.
