Michael Addis is a Professor of Psychology at Clark University, specializing in men’s mental health and the social construction of masculinity. His work examines how masculinity influences men’s experiences of mental health challenges and their help-seeking behaviors. Addis holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Washington (1995) and a B.A. in Psychology from UC Berkeley (1987). He has received prestigious awards including the New Researcher Award (Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy) and the David Shakow Early Career Award (APA).
His research focuses on masculinity’s impact on mental health, including studies on multiracial men’s identity, fathering roles in Uganda, and diagnostic aversion in distressed men. He has authored/co-authored over 10 refereed journal articles in outlets like Psychology of Men & Masculinities and Journal of Personality Assessment, as well as a book on men’s psychology. Addis has presented at major conferences such as the American Psychological Association and Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues.
