Michael Adams is the Head of the College of Health and Care Professions and an Associate Professor at Birmingham City University (BCU). With a nursing background, he transitioned to academia in 2004, holding roles such as Senior Lecturer and Head of Department for Practice Learning. He served as West Midlands Regional Director of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) from 2017 and later became Director for England (2020–2021), leading member services and engaging with national healthcare stakeholders during the COVID-19 pandemic. Returning to BCU in 2021, he assumed the Quality Enhancement Lead role before his current position.
His expertise spans healthcare leadership, nursing education, and policy. He has collaborated with NHS Pay Review Bodies, government ministries, and thinktanks. Media engagements include representing RCN perspectives on national platforms.
