Michael A. Rizzo is an Associate Professor and Director of the Journalism Program at St. John’s University’s Collins College of Professional Studies. He maintains strong industry ties through freelance roles with ABC News, The Tablet, and Queens Courier, ensuring his teaching aligns with modern journalism trends. His academic background includes a BA in Communications from Fordham University (with radio leadership experience) and an MBA from St. John’s University.
Research and teaching interests focus on journalistic ethics, experiential learning, citizen journalism, and evolving media trends. He actively contributes to professional organizations: moderating the university’s Society of Professional Journalists chapter, serving on the Deadline Club board, and as New York State Coordinator for the Radio and Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).
Prior industry roles include General Manager/Executive Director for News and Sports at ABC News Radio, where his teams won Edward R. Murrow awards, and leadership positions at ABC Sports Radio, Fios1 News, and News12. Courses taught span sports broadcasting, investigative reporting, podcasting, and ethics-driven journalism.
