Lucrezia Cuen Paxson is an Associate Professor and Professor of Practice in the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University-Everett. She joined the college in 2012 after a career as a broadcast journalist and foreign correspondent. Paxson founded the college's Global Engagement program and Backpack Environmental program, and led the Backpack Journalism program. She teaches courses such as Reporting Across Platforms, Brand Journalism, and Communicating Science and Technology.

Paxson's research focuses on advancing communication in STEM and STEM+ interdisciplinary fields, global engagement, and breaking down barriers of academic and professional biases through interdisciplinary project-based learning and merged coursework. Her work bridges communication, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration, aiming to foster transformative learning experiences and reduce biases in academic and professional settings. She is particularly interested in how project-based learning can integrate diverse fields to solve complex problems.
Her recent publications explore interdisciplinary project-based learning models, such as the SOAR initiative for STEM education and strategies for breaking down silos in higher education. These works highlight trends in integrating communication skills into STEM fields and creating inclusive learning environments through merged coursework.
Notable awards include the 2024 Arctic Circle Expeditionary Residency Fellowship, multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards for radio features, and a Golden Mic Award. Her accolades also recognize her mentorship in the Boeing Scholars program, which won first place in a business plan competition.
