Dr. Michael A. Finn is a Lecturer in History of Science at the University of Leeds' School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science and Director of the Museum of the History of Science, Technology & Medicine since 2014. He holds a BA in Natural Sciences (University of Cambridge, 2006), MA (2008), and PhD (2012) in History and Philosophy of Science from Leeds.

His research focuses on the history of mind and brain sciences from the 18th century onward, emphasizing psychiatry-neurology intersections, asylum roles in medical development, self-help movements, psychological sciences in advertising, and mental health education. He actively supervises PhD students across multiple interdisciplinary projects.
Supervision includes joint guidance of 6 current PhD candidates covering topics like Antarctic mental health, British psychiatry pedagogy, gendered psycho-medical theory, and psychiatric nosology history. He also leads undergraduate/postgraduate modules in history of science, medicine, and psychology.
His role as Museum Director integrates teaching and research through collections related to science and medicine history.
