Mia-Sue Carrère

Mia-Sue Carrère is an Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture and Design at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV), where she has taught undergraduate workshops since 2022. Born on December 12, 1996 in Valparaíso, Chile, she is also currently pursuing a Master's degree in the area of 'City, Extension and Habitability' at e[ad] PUCV. She holds an architectural degree from both the School of Architecture and Design at PUCV and the School of Architecture at the University of Valparaíso.

Her research interests focus on architectural theory, spatial design, contemporary aesthetics, and the relationship between urban spaces and cultural identity. She has developed notable work examining Valparaíso's urban landscape as a theatrical setting, exploring how the city's physical environment functions as a stage for social interactions and cultural expressions. Her work bridges architecture, urban studies, and performance theory.

Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on Chilean architectural identity, with particular attention to coastal regions and the Anthropocene. Her work shows an evolution from historical analysis of modern Chilean architecture toward contemporary issues of extractive urbanism and environmental adaptation. She examines how spatial configurations influence social dynamics and cultural production in urban environments.

As an educator, Carrère teaches a diverse range of courses including Communicability of the Creative Project, Systematized Structuring of Project Research, and specialized workshops on architectural form, urban polycentrism, and the relationship between act and void in spatial design. Her teaching spans multiple semesters from 2019 through 2025, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to architectural education at PUCV.
