Mia Martin Hobbs is a Research Fellow at Deakin University's Alfred Deakin Institute within the Faculty of Arts and Education. Her work centers on oral histories of war legacies, focusing on the Vietnam War, War on Terror, memory, trauma, gender, and security. She leads projects on women/minority veterans in the War on Terror and anti-war Australian veterans through 'Challenging Anzac.'
Her research examines how war experiences shape identity and memory across cultures, particularly through veteran testimonies and transnational methodologies. Recent publications analyze national security narratives, imperial nostalgia in defense policy, and ethical practices in oral history.
She mentors PhD students Anna Sachiko Turnbull Wilkinson (Asian-Australian war brides), Max Billington (atomic veterans), and Catherine Louise Stuart (community housing). Awards include the Oral History Australia Book Award (2022) and multiple early-career fellowships.
