Mette Wiggen is a Lecturer in Teaching and Scholarship at the University of Leeds' School of Politics and International Studies. Her work focuses on extreme right-wing politics, welfare chauvinism, and Scandinavian political development, particularly the intersection of neo-liberalism and far-right influence in welfare policies. She teaches modules on extreme right politics, dissertation supervision, and introductory political science for the Social Science Foundation Programme.
Her research examines the impact of extreme right-wing parties on mainstream politics, immigration policies, and welfare systems in Scandinavia. She critiques the 'left' failure to counter neo-liberal agendas and explores cultural tensions around immigration and citizenship. Her volunteer work with Leeds' refugee sector aligns with her academic interests, and she serves as an Outreach Officer for the Social Science Cluster, focusing on widening participation in higher education.
