Dr. Anders Widfeldt is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Aberdeen's School of Social Science. Previously affiliated with Göteborg University, Sweden, he holds a Fil Kand (Candidate of Philosophy) and Fil doktor (Doctor of Philosophy), completing his doctoral work on party membership in Sweden in 1997. His research focuses on right-wing radicalism, populism, Nordic politics, and political parties. He has published extensively on topics including the Sweden Democrats, far-right movements in Scandinavia, and electoral politics.
Teaching responsibilities include Comparative Politics, Nordic Politics, and Research Methods. He has served as Examinations Officer for Politics and International Relations and was Director of Teaching and Learning for the School of Social Science (2013–2019). Widfeldt has supervised PhD projects on political parties in Nigeria, local parties in Norway, and party organizations in Scotland.
His publications span peer-reviewed articles, books, and commissioned reports, including The Sweden Democrats in Transition (2024) and contributions to The Routledge Handbook of Far-Right Extremism in Europe (2023). His work analyzes political developments in Sweden, the growth of radical right movements, and the electoral strategies of populist parties across Europe.
