Jordan McSwiney is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance, University of Canberra. He holds a PhD from the University of Sydney (2021). His research focuses on far-right political movements, examining their communication strategies, digital organization, and electoral dynamics. Key projects include the Australian Research Council-funded 'Democratic Resilience: The Public Sphere and Extremist Attacks' (2021-25).
His education includes a PhD in Political Science at the University of Sydney, complemented by visiting fellowships at the Centre for Research on Extremism (C-REX), University of Oslo (2023), and research appointments at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center (2019-2020).
Research interests span far-right digital mobilization, extremist humor as ideological tool, and the intersection of social media with political exclusion. Notable publications include Far-Right Political Parties in Australia: Disorganisation and Electoral Failure (Routledge, 2024) and analyses of far-right communities on platforms like Gab.
Public engagement includes commentary on Islamophobia, neo-Nazi activism, and far-right youth recruitment for Al Jazeera, The Guardian, and The Age. He has advised parliamentary inquiries on right-wing extremism and contributed to policy discussions on democratic resilience.
His work bridges academic research and public policy, emphasizing the societal impacts of far-right digital ecosystems. Current projects explore post-violent extremism public sphere dynamics and the transnational spread of far-right visual culture.
