Katrine Fangen is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Oslo's Department of Sociology and Human Geography. She is a leading scholar in extremism research, serving as thematic leader for 'Ideology and Identity' and 'Gender and Extremism' at C-REX (Center for Research on Extremism). Her work focuses on nationalism, right-wing populism, anti-immigration movements, and gender dynamics within extremist contexts. Fangen has conducted extensive fieldwork with far-right groups in Norway and Germany, including neo-Nazis and anti-Islamic activists, blending qualitative methods with digital data analysis.
**Positions**: Acting director of UiO:demokrati (2024–2025), chair of the sociology panel at Denmark's Independent Research Fund (2022–2024), and research leader at C-REX since 2016. She previously served as head of department at ISS (2016–2019) and deputy director at ISS (2014–2015).
