Iris Beau Segers is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Gender Research (STK) and the Centre for Research on Extremism (C-REX), University of Oslo. Her research examines far-right politics of knowledge, anti-gender mobilization, and ethical challenges in studying extremism.
She received her PhD in Media and Communication from the University of Oslo in 2020. Her doctoral work analyzed local storytelling in anti-asylum seeker protests, published as a book in the Routledge Mobilization Series.
Segers' primary interests are far-right protest mobilization, anti-gender movements, and the politics of knowledge. She investigates how far-right groups construct alternative knowledge systems, particularly targeting gender and trans issues, and the threats faced by academics in this field. Her work emphasizes methodological and ethical considerations for researchers.
Her publications reveal a strong trajectory in gender and far-right studies, with recent work focusing on "anti-woke" academies and intersectional approaches to researcher safety. She consistently addresses the emotional labor and ethical dilemmas inherent in researching extremist groups.
No scientific awards or fellowships are publicly documented for Dr. Segers.
She has taught as a lecturer at the University of Oslo and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Currently, she is a key researcher on the Comparative Far-right Protest (CFP) and Harassment, Intimidation and Threats in the Sciences (HITS) projects at C-REX, having previously worked on the H2020 DRIVE project.
Segers collaborates within STK and C-REX research teams, contributing to cross-national protest data collection and developing frameworks for ethical research on the far right, with a focus on academic harassment and safety protocols.
