Melody Lynch is a part-time lecturer in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment at Concordia University, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses including Indigenous Peoples and Environmental Assessment, Environmental Management, and Urban Ecology. She previously co-taught the Honours capstone course in Geography at McGill University. She holds a PhD in Geography from McGill.
Her research explores socio-ecological health impacts through interdisciplinary lenses:
- Human-Environment Systems: Focus on equity, structural inequalities, and collaborative work with Indigenous groups, ethnic minorities, and women.
- Methodologies: Ethnography, GIS, and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry to analyze toxicant exposure, land access, and spiritual connections to environments.
- Thematic Expertise: Urban/feminist political ecology, marine conservation, and community well-being in Arctic/Indonesian contexts.
Her publications emphasize community health dynamics (Nunavik Inuit) and intersectional conservation practices, utilized by health boards for regional planning.
Awards & Recognition:
- PFF Community Leadership Fellowship (2014) for establishing a women's cooperative in Indonesia.
She coordinated the 2017 Nunavik Inuit Health Survey, developing community health indicators during Arctic expeditions, and led projects in Malaysia and Indonesia.
