معرفی
Melissa Vollrath is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology at McGill University. Her research focuses on cellular physiology, specifically investigating sensory hair cells in the auditory and vestibular systems. She employs electrophysiology and molecular biology techniques using mouse and zebrafish models to study ion channel function and gene essentiality for cell survival and regeneration.
Education:
- B.Sc., University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
- Ph.D., Baylor College of Medicine
- Post-Doctoral Training, Harvard Medical School
Teaching: Coordinates and teaches PHGY209, PHGY212, and contributes to courses such as PHGY210, PHGY213, PHGY314, PHGY604, and PHGY351, covering mammalian physiology, integrative neuroscience, and research ethics.
Research Interests: Dr. Vollrath explores sensory transduction mechanisms in hair cells, emphasizing mechanically-gated ion channels and genetic factors influencing cell regeneration. Her work bridges molecular biology and physiological systems to address hearing and balance disorders.
