Melissa Shiplett-Jupe

Melissa Shiplett-Jupe, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Director of the MAC Program at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLUSA). She specializes in mental health, reproductive health, LGBTQ+ mental health, and perinatal mental health. Her roles include teaching clinical diagnosis, research, and multicultural counseling. She holds certifications as a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional.

• MSc in Clinical Mental Health Counseling – University of Texas at San Antonio
• B.A. in Psychology – St. Mary's University, San Antonio

Her research focuses on perinatal mental health of pregnant/birthing individuals, LGBTQ+ mental health advocacy, and culturally responsive counseling practices. She integrates heutagogy and constructivist approaches in teaching to enhance students' critical thinking and practical counseling skills.

Professional memberships include the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), Postpartum Support International (PSI), and the American Counseling Association (ACA). She serves on the SA Mayor's LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee.
