Melissa O'Connor serves as the Associate Dean for Research and Rudin Professor of Nursing at Hunter College's Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing. A nationally recognized expert in home healthcare services for vulnerable older adults, she holds dual doctoral preparation in nursing and business administration with specialized expertise in gerontological nursing, informatics, and transitional care.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Nursing and an Advanced Certificate in Teaching from the University of Pennsylvania, an MBA from Eastern University, an Advanced Certificate in Applied Health Informatics from Johns Hopkins University, a BSN from Thomas Jefferson University, and a Nursing Diploma from Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing.
Dr. O'Connor's research focuses on addressing the needs of community-dwelling older adults through innovative informatics approaches. She develops evidence-based clinical decision support tools to improve care coordination for frail older adults requiring home health services, with significant implications for healthcare policy and practice. Her work emphasizes interprofessional team approaches to managing complex co-morbid conditions in home settings.
Her numerous accolades include being an inaugural Fellow with the Betty Irene Moore Fellowships for Nurse Leaders and Innovators, a Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing, and Fellow in both the American Academy of Nursing and Gerontological Society of America.
