Melissa E. Givens is an Associate Professor of Music at Pomona College, where she has served since 2018. As Applied Music Coordinator, she specializes in voice, diction, vocal pedagogy, and African American art song and spirituals. Her performances span repertoire from the Baroque era to contemporary works.
- Education: DMA (University of Houston), MM (Rice University), BA (Davidson College)
Her research interests include voice, reception history, Harlem Renaissance, African American art song/opera/spirituals, and art song.
Scientific awards include the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance (with Conspirare), Pomona College's Wig Curriculum Development Grant (2019), and honors from the Daughters of the American Revolution and Sigma Alpha Iota.
