James Harrington is an Assistant Professor of Voice at SUNY Fredonia's Fredonia School of Music, where he teaches classical, musical theatre, and jazz students. He holds a B.M. from Berklee College of Music, an M.M. from Florida State University, and is expected to complete his DMA from the University of Wisconsin.
- Teaching Interests: Applied Voice (classical, musical theatre, jazz), Arts Entrepreneurship, Song Literature (Korean, Great American Songbook, Multi-Genre)
- Research Interests: Entrepreneurship & professional development for performing artists, pedagogical and acoustic considerations for bass/baritone voices, vocal jazz pedagogy & vocalese, multimedia innovation in song recital formats, German laborers’ choral traditions, and Korean art song/diction.
A professional bass performer, Harrington has appeared in operas from Monteverdi to Wagner at Santa Fe Opera, Portland Opera, Nashville Opera, and other companies. He authored Building a Career in Opera from School to Stage: Operapreneurship (Routledge, 2020) and presented lectures at Yale Opera, NYU, and Utah State University. He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, National Opera Association, and College Music Society.
