Melissa Dodd, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Nicholson School of Communication and Media at the University of Central Florida (UCF). She holds expertise in social media, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and social capital theory, focusing on their impact on public relations outcomes. Her work bridges academic research with practical applications in corporate communication and crisis management.
Dr. Dodd earned her Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Miami (2012) and an M.A. in Public Relations from Ball State University (2009). Her research has been grant-funded and recognized with awards such as the Arthur W. Page Society Legacy Scholar (2012–2014) and the Brigham Young University Top Ethics Paper Award (2010).
Her research interests emphasize CSR’s role in stakeholder engagement, activism through digital platforms, and the measurement of social capital. She has advised corporate clients like Bacardi U.S.A. and the University of Miami’s Emergency Management Department, applying theoretical insights to real-world challenges.
Dr. Dodd serves on the advisory board of the International Public Relations Research Conference and has held leadership roles in professional organizations like the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). Her work often explores intersections between public diplomacy, consumer behavior, and ethical communication strategies.
