معرفی
Melissa Bloomer is a Professor in Critical Care Nursing with a joint appointment between Griffith University and the Princess Alexandra Hospital Intensive Care Unit in Brisbane. She is the national Chair of the End-of-Life Advisory Panel for the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses, leading research and policy initiatives in end-of-life care within intensive care settings.
Her research focuses on ensuring comfort and dignity in death, particularly in acute and critical care environments. Key areas include the integration and perception of Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) in ICU contexts, and the impact of cultural, linguistic, and religious diversity on end-of-life decision-making and care outcomes. She investigates how language barriers affect patient autonomy, satisfaction, and clinical communication, aiming to reduce disparities in care for vulnerable populations.
Melissa's work is driven by her clinical experience as an ICU nurse, where she witnessed systemic shortcomings in end-of-life care and channeled her passion into research to effect systemic change. Her research informs clinical practice and public health policy, particularly in the ethical and cultural dimensions of dying in modern healthcare systems.
She is actively involved in national advisory roles and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across clinical and academic institutions to improve end-of-life care standards.
