Melinda Stephens is the Provost and Professor of Chemistry at Geneva College, serving as Chief Academic Officer. She holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh (1998) and a B.S. in Chemistry from Geneva College (1993). Her research focuses on Analytical and Organic Chemistry, with specialties in photochemistry, electrochemistry, and materials science. She teaches courses ranging from introductory chemistry to advanced topics like polymer chemistry and instrumental analysis.
Dr. Stephens has been actively involved in professional organizations such as the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy (Pittcon®), holding roles including Exposition Chair (2017), President (2024), and various committee leadership positions since 2001. She also contributed to the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh, leading committees on scholarships and awards.
Her awards include the National Science Foundation Fellowship (1994–1998) and the Pittsburgh Analytical Chemistry Award (1996). She has published on topics like photoresponsive materials and forensic chemistry, emphasizing interdisciplinary applications of analytical methods. Her teaching and research aim to bridge academic and industrial needs, as reflected in her work on graduate preparedness.
Dr. Stephens is married with four sons and enjoys hobbies like walking, racquetball, and scrapbooking. She is a member of Pathway Church.
