Dr. Melina Dobson is a Lecturer at the Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies at the University of Buckingham and holds a prestigious Early Career Fellowship at the Institute of Advanced Study, University of Warwick. She specializes in intelligence accountability, national security whistleblowers, and the role of historians in understanding state secrecy. Her doctoral research examined US national security whistleblowers from 1970–2017, focusing on their societal impact.
Education: PhD in Politics and International Studies (University of Warwick), MA in International Security (Warwick), and LLB (Hons) Law with German Law (University of Surrey).
Her research explores modern challenges to intelligence oversight, including the ethical implications of unauthorized disclosures and the evolving role of journalists and historians as informal accountability mechanisms. She has presented at numerous international conferences, including the International Studies Association and the International Intelligence Historian Association.
Her work has been published in journals like Intelligence and National Security and British Journal of Politics and International Relations, emphasizing themes of declassification policies and transparency in intelligence operations.
