Melie Le Roy is a Lecturer in Biological Anthropology at Bournemouth University, joining the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology in April 2022. She is a specialist in funerary practices related to children and conducts fieldwork in southern France and Egypt.

Her research focuses on biological anthropology, particularly childhood archaeology and funerary practices in Neolithic Europe. Using interdisciplinary methods such as GIS, stable isotopes, and ancient DNA, she investigates social structures, mobility, and burial customs. Her work bridges osteoarchaeology and cultural interpretation of death.
Recent publications span high-impact journals including Nature and Journal of Archaeological Science, with a consistent focus on child burials, collective graves, and regional burial patterns in prehistoric France. Her work reveals trends in social identity, kinship, and ritual through integrated bioarchaeological analysis.

Melie Le Roy supervises undergraduate and master’s students in osteoarchaeology and childhood archaeology. She is also involved in a HEIF-funded grant project on Mass Grave simulation starting in 2025, indicating ongoing research leadership.
