Melanie Massaro is an Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University within the School of Agricultural, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences. She holds a PhD from the University of Otago (2004), an MSc from Memorial University of Newfoundland (2000), and a BSc from Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University (1996). Her research focuses on ecology, ornithology, and conservation biology, addressing threats to island birds, invasive species impacts, and seabird evolution. She has secured grants from the Australian Research Council, Hermon Slade Foundation, and WIRES.
Dr. Massaro’s research spans penguin studies in Antarctica to avian conservation in Australia and Nepal. She leads international programs teaching sustainable resource use and the interplay of culture and conservation. Her editorial roles include Associate Editor of Austral Ecology. Awards include the NSW Research Impact Showcase (2021) and Durno Murray Award (2021).
