Dr. Meagan Dewar is a Lecturer in Biological Sciences and Ecology at Federation University Australia's Institute of Innovation, Science and Sustainability (IISS). Her work focuses on microbial communities in marine and terrestrial wildlife, infectious disease dynamics, and disease surveillance in remote regions like Antarctica. She teaches courses including Principles of Biology, Systems Biology, and Biodiversity Conservation.
Research interests include the functional roles of microbial communities in sharks, seabirds, and koalas, alongside HPAI surveillance in Antarctic wildlife. Current projects involve the Shark Microbiome, Koala Microbiome, and Penguin Microbes initiatives. She is a member of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research's Health Monitoring of Birds and Marine Mammals working group.
Her recent work emphasizes avian influenza spread in Antarctica, microbial ecology of migratory species, and conservation strategies for endangered seabirds. Articles highlight field-based diagnostics, HPAI risk mitigation, and Antarctic ecosystem resilience.
