Monash Universityمعرفی
Richard Reina is a Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at Monash University. His research focuses on diving physiology of marine megafauna, stress responses in sharks and rays, and marine conservation biology. He has led over 46 research projects, including studies on Australian fur seals, little penguins, and sea turtle conservation. Notable grants include funding from Holsworth Wildlife Research Endowment and Sea World Research & Rescue Foundation Inc.
His research interests span ecological physiology, climate change impacts on wildlife, and the effects of fisheries on marine life. Key areas include the use of drones for non-invasive wildlife monitoring and mitigating stress in captured elasmobranchs.
Reina received the Award for Exceptional Educational Service to the Faculty of Science (2021) and has collaborated globally on projects addressing marine debris, penguin ecology, and turtle nesting behaviors. He advises on conservation strategies for endangered species and integrates technology like UAVs to enhance field research.
Current projects include studying marine debris impacts on Australian fur seals and environmental changes affecting little penguins in enclosed bays. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to life below water and climate action.
