Melanie Dixon

Melanie Dixon is a Researcher in the School of Civil Engineering & Surveying at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Faculty of Technology. She holds a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Portsmouth and a PhD from the University of Southampton. Her work focuses on engineering solutions for environmental pollution, ecotoxicology, and sustainable water use in agriculture. She has developed in-house analytical techniques including XRD, XRF, ICP-OES, and SEM.

Education: BSc Biological Sciences (University of Portsmouth); PhD in Sustainable Water Use (University of Southampton).

Research Interests: Combines environmental engineering with materials science to address pollution challenges. Specializes in water management for agriculture, particularly mitigating impacts of watercress farming on chalk streams. Explores bioinspired composite materials for medical applications through additive manufacturing.

Current Projects: Leading the MANGA project (Monitoring Ammonia and Nitrogenous Greenhouse Gases in Agriculture and Wastewater), focusing on agricultural and wastewater monitoring. Collaborates with Environmental Technology Group.

Labs/Teams: Works within the Environmental Technology Group, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean water and responsible consumption.
