Professor John Williams is a Professor of Environmental Technology at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of Civil Engineering and Surveying. He leads the Environmental Technology and Management Research Group and directs the Environmental Technology Field Station, a unique facility collaborating with industry partners like Southern Water and WPL Ltd. His research focuses on wastewater treatment, sustainable drainage (SuDS), and low-impact environmental solutions. He has supervised 24 PhD students and actively engages in industry-academia partnerships, including projects on phosphorus removal, pharmaceuticals in sewage, and SuDS pollutant fate analysis.
Education: BSc (Hons) in Resources Science from Kingston Polytechnic (1988), PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Portsmouth (1993). Career progression includes roles from Lecturer to Professor (2017).
