Mel MYLEK is a Research Fellow and Postdoctoral Fellow at the Health Research Institute, University of Canberra. Their research focuses on health and wellbeing, disaster resilience, and social dimensions of natural resource management. Mel holds a PhD (2021) and BSc (For) (H1) from the Australian National University.
Education: PhD in Understanding the acceptability of fuel management strategies (2021), BSc (For) from ANU (2006).
Mel's research interests include wellbeing surveys (Regional Wellbeing Survey and Carer Wellbeing Survey), social acceptability of environmental policies, and wildfire risk mitigation. They utilize mixed-methods approaches in social science, emphasizing resilience during disasters and natural resource management.
Key grants and projects include the Natural Hazards Research Scholarship (2023–2027), the Living with Dementia Survey (2024–2026), and Building Wellbeing into regional decision-making (2024–2026). Collaborations span rural leadership, mental health, and carer support initiatives.
