Research emphasizes wildfire risk reduction through community engagement, social diversity analysis, and adaptive capacity frameworks. Notable projects include USDA-funded studies on fire adapted communities, NSF grants assessing wildfire vulnerability, and BLM-sponsored recreation planning initiatives. His work bridges social science and ecology to address complex natural resource challenges.
Grants include leadership roles in projects such as 'Adapting to Wildfire: Defining Pathways for Fire-Adapted Communities' (USDA Forest Service) and 'Advancing Resilience to Compounding Disasters' (NSF). Over 15 years, his research has informed policy and management practices by integrating local contexts into wildfire adaptation strategies.
Publications span peer-reviewed journals and technical reports, focusing on wildfire sociology, policy, and community recovery. He collaborates with federal agencies, NGOs, and local stakeholders to translate research into actionable solutions for wildfire-prone regions.
