Meike Bartels is a Full Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences and the Biological Psychology department. She holds additional full professorships in Personalized Medicine and Mental Health at the Amsterdam Public Health (APH) institute.
Her research spans genetics, wellbeing, and the interplay between biological and social factors, with a focus on epigenetics, developmental psychology, and mental health. She leads major projects like The Power of Wellbeing (NWO VICI grant 2021-2028) and WELL-BEING (ERC Consolidator Grant 2017-2024). She also contributes to initiatives such as ENLIGHTENme (2021-2024) and CURE4LIFE (2022-2027).
Scientific awards include the Fuller/Scott Award (2008), Thompson Award (2002), and University Research Chair (2014). She is an International Positive Psychology Association Fellow (2017) and serves on the Board of Directors (Immediate Past-President) of the same organization.
Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to Genetic Determinism, Wellbeing, and Mental Health. She supervises PhD students and collaborates extensively across disciplines, including neuroscience, molecular psychiatry, and behavioral genetics.
