Dr. Michel Nivard is a Visiting Fellow at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences, specifically in the Biological Psychology department. He holds additional visiting fellow roles in the APH - Mental Health and APH - Methodology units. His research focuses on genetics, mental health, and behavioral sciences, with notable contributions to chronobiology, epidemiology, and genomic studies.
His work addresses topics such as social jetlag’s impact on wellbeing, genetic influences on chronotype, and the role of light in mental health. Key projects include analyzing cell-free DNA genetics and investigating historical famine effects on BMI. Nivard has supervised four PhD theses and was honored with the Behaviour Genetics Association Memorial Award (2019) for his contributions to the field.
Research collaborations span global institutions, reflecting his expertise in interdisciplinary genetic and epidemiological studies. His findings often intersect with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly mental health and sustainable communities.
