Dr. Mehrdad Matloubian is a Professor of Medicine at UCSF School of Medicine. His research examines immune cell trafficking, inflammatory responses, and autoimmune disease mechanisms.
He holds an MD/PhD from UCLA (1996) and completed clinical training at UCSF. His seminal work discovered S1P receptor 1's role in lymphocyte egress from lymphoid organs, with ongoing research on sphingosine-1-phosphate signaling in immune regulation.
Recent clinical research investigates:
- Immunogenicity of COVID-19 vaccines in immunosuppressed patients
- Rheumatoid arthritis digital health tools
- Rare neuroinflammatory disorders
Key discoveries include the ATM-CHK2-INCENP DNA damage pathway (2021) and T-cell receptor signaling thresholds (2014). He leads NIH-funded projects on lymphocyte trafficking regulation and molecular immunology.
As Director of the Molecular Medicine Investigation Unit, he integrates clinical practice with basic science research.
