Meghna Sapui is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Michigan Society of Fellows. Her research focuses on the literature and culture of the British Empire in the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly examining alimentary narratives and their intersections with colonialism, caste, ecology, and race. She holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Florida (2023).
Her current projects include Edible Empire, analyzing food as a narrative device in colonial contexts, and a study on ecological disciplines' imperial formations. Teaching interests span 19th-century literature, postcolonial studies, food studies, and affect theory. Her work appears in Victorian Studies, Global Food History, ELH, and other venues.
Research highlights include studies on culinary discourses in colonial South Asia, Victorian-era food politics, and the role of taste in mediating colonial power structures. She emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, combining literary analysis with food studies and environmental humanities.
