Megan Murphy serves as Professor and Dean of the School of Mental and Behavioral Health, which is part of the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions at Regis University. In her dual role, she leads academic and administrative functions for the school while maintaining an active scholarly profile. Additionally, she holds the professional designations of Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor from the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, underscoring her clinical expertise and commitment to the field.
Dr. Murphy's research program centers on critical issues in couple and family therapy, including power dynamics in relationships, diversity and social justice, feminist perspectives, ethical dilemmas, LGBTQ-affirmative practices, and the complexities of narcissistic abuse. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications, aiming to enhance therapeutic interventions and promote equity in mental health care.
Her scholarly contributions are highlighted by two influential edited volumes: the second edition of "Ethics and Professional Issues in Couple and Family Therapy" (2016) and the second edition of the "Handbook of LGBTQ-Affirmative Couple and Family Therapy" (2021). Professional service forms a significant part of Dr. Murphy's career, having served as Commissioner for the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education, Region I Representative for the Indiana Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, member of the Iowa Board of Behavioral Science, and Chair of the Institutional Review Board at Iowa State University.
