Meg Pollock is a Researcher at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), affiliated with the Integrated Land Management department and the Hill & Mountain Research Centre. Her work focuses on herbivore impacts on upland vegetation and land management systems. She holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh (2003) and a Bachelor’s in Ecological Science (1998).
Her research explores deer management conflicts between adjacent estates, biodiversity effects of reduced sheep grazing, and guidance for conflicting habitat grazing requirements. Notable projects include a Forestry Commission-funded woodland grazing trial and a Scottish Natural Heritage initiative.
Pollock has published over 20 peer-reviewed works since 2002, addressing topics like agroforestry integration, muirburn policy, and sustainable livestock practices. Her work bridges ecology, policy, and stakeholder collaboration in rural landscapes.
She co-led a 2022 project evaluating muirburn’s role in wildfire prevention and carbon storage, informing Scottish policy. Her interdisciplinary approach addresses ecological, economic, and social dimensions of land management challenges.
