Meena Hasan

Meena Hasan serves as Associate Professor in the Painting department at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where she actively contributes to academic and artistic discourse while maintaining her Brooklyn-based studio practice.

Her educational foundation includes a BA from Oberlin College (2009) and an MFA from Yale School of Art (2013), where she received early recognition through the Carol Schlosberg Memorial Prize for Painting.

Hasan's practice critically engages with heritage politics through material exploration, synthesizing personal and historical textiles, patterns, and decorative motifs. Her distinctive process combines fine ink drawings with pigment washes and accumulations on diverse papers to construct textured psychosomatic surfaces that challenge conventional aesthetic frameworks in contemporary painting.
